Beyond Blessed {Give Thanks ALWAYS}

The endless routine that is our daily lives lends itself more to selfishness than gratitude. I find myself  dwelling more on what could be better in my life, than the abundant blessings that I have right in front of me.

The Lord asks us to give thanks in ALL circumstances. {1 Thessalonians 5:18} A spirit of constant gratitude often comes about through a change in perspective; a shift in view from the inside to the outside. There are many simple, mundane things that we take for granted, while millions of people are praying for those same blessings.

Be thankful for what you have. Your life, no matter how bad you think it is, is someone else’s fairytale.

{Clean Water}

783 MILLION people worldwide lack access to safe, clean water. Constantly, water related diseases rob life from children. HALF of the world’s hospital beds accommodate people suffering from fatal dehydration and other water-borne illnesses. The Water Project and Living Water International are focused on ending these bleak statistics by providing wells and water pumps in impoverished communities.

{Literacy}

So far in this post you’ve read more words than 757 million people ever have. Many people take the ability to read and write for granted, but for those that are denied this basic skill, some of life’s most essential necessities become far out of reach. Outreach International assists in ending worldwide illiteracy by providing education for children living in poverty. These children become a generation of change in their hopeless society by sharing skills, accomplishing goals and bettering their local community.

{Healthcare}

Though America’s healthcare system isn’t perfect, it’s pretty incredible in comparison to some foreign medical systems {or lack thereof}. Many Americans have the comforting knowledge that if a health tragedy struck, almost instantaneous care would be provided. While in Haiti, I got a first-hand perspective of the lengths that people took to receive a bag of basic medication. I definitely take the blessing of health, and health care, for granted, but seeing what some people have to do to receive simple clinical care allowed me to appreciate those things deeply. The organization, IMA World Health views everyone as a valuable attribute to God’s kingdom and is doing their best to make sure each of those people have proper healthcare by assisting people worldwide.

{Full Bellies}

Did you know that starvation kills more people annually than malaria, AIDS and tuberculosis combined? Poverty causes families worldwide to face impossible choices in regards to hunger. Due to oppression, escalating food prices, and poverty, individuals in developing countries are forced to surrender about 30-50 percent of their income just to put food on the table. Families in America spend a mere 7 percent. Non-profits like Children’s Hunger FundFeed My Starving Children and World Vision seek to follow Jesus’ command to feed His sheep; both with physical food as well as spiritual.

The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.

{Shelter}

In the US alone there are over half a million homeless people, a quarter of those being children. By itself, that number is shocking, but it doesn’t even account for the MILLIONS across the world forced to be at the mercy of the streets. Homelessness has become criminalized in many large cities. Hurting homeless people, seen as deadbeat inconveniences, are being banished at every turn. It hurts my heart to know that these souls are constantly being rejected, even from their meager street “home.” Unfortunately, being homeless in America may seem like living the dream to those in other countries. Read about more global homelessness hereHabitat for Humanity assists in abolishing the worldwide homelessness crisis. They do this by constructing simple homes for low-income families around the globe.

Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

//PSALM 82:3-4//

I am by no means perfect at constant, consistent thanksgiving. I will try {and I encourage you to as well!} to simply look around and enjoy the simple blessings that the Lord has lavished upon my life.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

//COLOSSIANS 3:17//

I hope this post came across as the encouragement it was meant to be, and not as a burden. What is the Lord convicting you to be more thankful for in this season? Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
