{Wonderings about Wanderlust}

Wanderlust: {noun} a deep desire to wander, adventure and travel the world.

‘Wanderlust’ has been a buzzword over the recent years. It describes that small voice in your mind that beckons you to any place but the one you’re currently in. There’s something so undeniably beautiful and intriguing about venturing into the unknown. If left to the imagination, wanderlust can become a dangerous thing.

Inside all of us is an adventurous spirit, set on finding fulfillment through seeing all the world has to offer.The word wanderlust is meant to invoke a sense of freedom, a desire to adventure and explore. Those are great things, but this mindset can become a breeding ground for discontentment and fuel a constant desire to run away from anything uncomfortable or ordinary.

Our culture tells us that traveling will fulfill us. In some ways it can, but you don’t always have to pack your bags to have those experiences. The adventure of a lifetime is knowing and loving the very One who instilled the desire to explore inside of you. Experiences bring joy, but they’re not everything. They are a mere shadow of what Christ will give you when you deeply know Him. All that we long for, everything we hope to be, is found in Him. We were meant for more than what this world has to offer!

Let’s look at wanderlust differently and wholeheartedly seek after the adventure that God, who is full of more mystery and wonder than can ever be imagined, has for us. Maybe you have a calling to missions, perhaps you want to experience God through the glory of His creations, either way, God will use you anywhere. He just needs your willingness to adapt to wherever He places you. Simply knowing Christ is the biggest adventure you could ever have. He is writing your story, and He’s beckoning you to take the leap of faith and trust Him throughout this adventure called life.

May we never lose our wonder. Wide eyed and mystified may we be just like a child staring at the beauty of our King.

In beautiful calligraphy, this t-shirt says: “The Road is Life” referencing a famous quote. It reminds me that God has us on this path called life and He has huge, amazing plans for each one of His children. That leads me to the truth that graces the bracelet she sent me: Jeremiah 29:11.

For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future.
